Strengthening Communities Through Compassion and Safety

What is the RSU Ambassador Program?

The RSU Ambassador Program is a proactive and human-centered initiative designed to bridge the gap between public safety, outreach organizations, businesses, and city stakeholders. Our Ambassadors serve as trusted liaisons, providing a compassionate security presence, supporting vulnerable populations, and working collaboratively with law enforcement, first responders, and local agencies.

By addressing public safety concerns, de-escalating conflicts, and providing emergency aid, Ambassadors foster trust, accountability, and real-time solutions for community well-being.

The Role of an Ambassador

Ambassadors are more than just safety personnel—they are community connectors with specialized training in:

  • De-escalation & Crisis Intervention: Handling tense situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Public Safety & First Aid: Providing immediate assistance and support in medical emergencies, including Narcan (Naloxone) administration.
  • Outreach Coordination: Connecting individuals with shelters, mental health resources, and harm reduction services.
  • Data & Intelligence Gathering: Informing policies and safety strategies by documenting trends, security risks, and challenges faced by local communities.

Addressing Today’s Challenges

The Pacific Northwest faces an evolving set of crises that directly impact public safety and community resilience:

  • Housing Crisis: Washington has seen a record increase in homelessness, with over 16,000 individuals unhoused in King County alone.
  • Substance Use & Public Health Crisis: The fentanyl epidemic continues to escalate, leading to rising overdoses and public health concerns.
  • Strained City Resources: Overcrowded shelters, healthcare shortages, and increased demands for emergency response place pressure on public systems.
  • Community Safety & Business Impact: Businesses, property managers, and outreach teams need a reliable safety presence to mitigate loitering, vandalism, and security risks.

RSU Ambassadors provide real-time solutions by offering direct support to these sectors, relieving pressure on emergency services and fostering a safer environment for all.

The Impact of RSU Ambassadors

In 2024 alone, RSU teams have:

  • Conducted 40,000+ security patrols
  • Assisted in 2,500 documented incidents
  • Facilitated collaboration between 30+ outreach teams, public agencies, and businesses

TESTIMONIALS

"Good Evening! I am writing to express my deep gratitude for the presence of your staff at the civic field shelter. I am the PM supervisor on a lot of the nights of the week. I would like to call out your recent new hire, T, specifically.

There was an altercation which became physical between two guests on Sunday night, T sprang into action and was quickly in between the two parties. He successfully defused the situation before anyone was seriously hurt and aided me in further de-escalation and removal of the parties involved from the premises. T has in my opinion gone above and beyond his call in this instance and I felt the need to express my deep gratitude for his presence and assistance on Sunday.

Thank you all very much again, your help has been crucial in running a safe shelter for our vulnerable neighbors.
